A red figure pottery ovoid lekythos decorated with a figure of a siren.

The siren was a mythological figure shown as a bird with the head of a beautiful woman. Their singing had the power to lure sailors into perilous waters.

Greek, Athens, late 5th Century BC

Spout and handle lost, surface wear and chipping as seen in the photographs, on the back there is a small area of restoration as well as some re-painting of the black field
