Uruk or Jemdet Nasr large stamp seal

A large domed stamp seal carved from a cream coloured limestone with pink inclusions.

The seal is carved to the base with two symmetrically arranged stylised animals in counterpoised positions.

Size: 2.95 x 1.3 cms

Intact. Decoration worn and one animal scratched. The seal is a lovely size and has a good patina.

Mesopotamia, Uruk or Jemdet Nasr, 3300 - 2900 BC.

Sold with an epoxy resin seal impression.

Formerly in the stock of a West End London dealership which ceased trading in 1988. Acquired during the 1970's/1980's on the London art market.
