Jemdet Nasr calcite head amulet

A small calcite amulet in the form of a stylised human head wearing a flat circular head-dress.

The amulet is pierced through the top and back of the head so that it could be worn via a vertical suspension loop.

Southern Mesopotamia, Jemdet Nasr culture, c. 3300-2900 BC

Intact as shown in the photographs.

Size: 1.4 x 1.2 cms

Ex. Astarte Gallery, Grosvenor Square, London. Acquired during the 1970's or 1980's.
