A moulded pottery oil lamp decorated to the upper surface with a bearded head wearing a winged head-dress within a frame of vines and scrolls. The underside is moulded in imitation of bronze-casting with a series of concentric circles on the base and radiating tongues below the spout. Roman, North Africa or Asia Minor, 3rd Century AD Small repair to handle and spout, otherwise in good condition. Size: 10.8 x 7.6 cms Provenance: Ex. private collection, Somerset, UK. Acquired c. 1960's/1970's in Palestine while founding and running a mixed Arab and Jewish charitable orphanage. Moshe Dayan was a regular visitor to the orphanage and influenced the formation of the antiquities collection.
