Roman red ware pottery bowl

£125

Sorry this item has sold

A red slip ware pottery bowl with a collared rim and rouletted decoration to the centre of the inside surface.

It is likely that this type of bowl was used as a mortar and that the decorated ridged surface served as a gentle abrasive for soft items such as herbs.

Roman, North African colonies, c. 4th or 5th Century AD

Intact apart from minor chipping as seen in the photographs.

Size:   16.6 x 4.8 cms

Ex. private collection, UK. Acquired in London during the 1980's/90's.
