The body from a red slip ware pottery vase with a single spout and a handle to the back. The upper body is painted in white and black with a repeating band of flowers drawn in a characteristically free-hand style.

A rare example of Meroitic pottery from the great African gold-trading civilization centred around modern Nubia.

Formerly in the collection of a German archaeologist resident in the UK since the mid 20th Century.
