Near Eastern or Mesopotamian gold and cornelian necklace

£650

A spectacular necklace strung with good quality cornelian and gold beads.

The gold beads are of a rounded bi-conical form and typical of Mesopotamian gold-work, the metal is quite thick and extremely high carat.

The central bead is a large variegated and partially calcified cornelian, with traces of green copper oxide.

Near East (Syria/Holy Lands) or Mesopotamia, early to mid 2nd Millennium BC

Intact, with modern string and gold plated clasps, fully wearable.

Size: 47 cms long when unfolded.
