Byzantine elaborate gold earring

A large gold earring consisting of an elaborate open-work disc mounted with a banded agate gem and four chain-work drops which would originally have held pearls or beads.

Byzantine, Eastern Mediterranean, 5th-7th Century AD

Size: 6 x 2.5 cms

Overall in very good condition with only a few minor dents. Quite robust and could easily be worn as a pendant.
