Greek painted pottery oinochoe jug

A black glazed pottery trefoil-lipped oinochoe jug with a ribbed body. The neck is painted with a simple garland pattern and the top of the handle terminates in a highly stylised lion's head with yellow and white painted decoration.

Greek, Gnathian colonies, 4th Century BC

Size: 13 x 7.6 cms.

Handle restored (reconstructed), calcified surface accretions as seen in the photographs.

Ex. private collection, Edinburgh, Scotland; acquired early 20th Century.
