Greek Attic pottery kylix cup

A very fine black glazed pottery kylix cup with a short stemmed foot and two upturned handles mounted on the side of the curved body.

Athenian kylices with a plain black glaze are relatively scarce and the lack of decoration allows the viewer to admire the quality and aesthetics of the shape without distraction.

Greek, Athens, late 6th Century BC

Size: 6.8 x 24.1 cms across handles, diameter of bowl 18.3 cms.

A small and almost invisible repair on one side of the rim, some minor chips and areas of light surface wear as seen in the photographs.

Ex. Elias-Vaes collection, The Netherlands. Acquired during the 1960's/1970's and subsequently on public display at the Kralings Museum in Rotterdam-Kralingen.
