Greek Laconian bronze head

A rare small bronze protome in the form of a powerful male head with long hair and a penetrating gaze.

Probably a fragment from the rim of a vessel, the neck-line displays signs of breakage but the back appears to be intact.

Greek, probably Laconian (Spartan), mid 6th Century BC

Fragment as shown, the surface is not quite as rough and patchy as the images suggest.

Size: 2.6 x 1.8 cms
