Greek pottery bird shaped feeder vessel

A charming black glazed pottery child's feeder vessel in the form of a dove. The bird's head forms the spout and there is a filling aperture on the back with a pierced strainer; the surface is decorated with incised ornamentation and there are traces of further white painted details (now lost).

Greek, South Italian colonies, 4th or early 3rd Century BC

Size: 12.5 x 12.5 cms

Small losses to one corner of the tail and the tip of the beak, surface chips elsewhere as seen in the photographs.

Ex. private collection, France; acquired 1930's-1960's.
