Greek pottery female protome |

A buff beige pottery protome with suspension hole, moulded into the form of an Archaic female head. These protomes are often thought to depict the goddess Demeter, they have been found in large quantities in votive contexts and deposits at sanctuaries and temples. Greek, late 6th Century BC. Losses to both lower corners. Attached to the remains of an old plaster display block. Size: 7 x 4.7 cms. Ex. Heide collection, Denmark. Acquired c. 1970's.
