Egyptian stone Osiris figure |
£ 4500 |
|
An exceptional dark steatite or serpentine Osiris figure of the very highest quality. The attention to detail in the facial features are evident in the photographs but the subtler refinements such as the minute detail lavished on the ears or the contour of the shins and knees are almost impossible to appreciate without seeing this figure. Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 730-332 BC Intact as shown, foot lost. Size: 14.6 x 4.3 cms Provenance: Ex. collection: Strathgarry House, Killiecrankie, Perthshire, Scotland. Acquired 19th or early 20th Century. An illegible paper collector's label is attached to the side of the back pillar. The figure is accompanied by a custom made black painted wood stand. The elegant display stand has been weighted with lead plugs to stop the figure from toppling and must have been made by a quality cabinet-maker in the early part of the 20th Century.
