Egyptian stone wine amphora amulet

£80

A black stone amulet in the form of a wine vessel.

This type of amulet is recorded in various shapes and was usually placed on the throat of a mummy. It is logical to assume that the positioning and shape of the amulet implied the provision of drink in the afterlife.

Egypt, Ptolemaic or Roman periods, 4th Century BC - 3rd Century AD

Base chipped, clean repair to lower body.

Size: 3 x 0.8 cms

Ex. private collection, Cornwall, UK.
