Egyptian calcified slate palette

£140

A small rectangular green slate palette with bevelled sides. The diagonal cut visible in the photographs appears to have been made on purpose, perhaps to ensure that the palette could not be re-used if stolen from a burial.

Egypt, Old Kingdom or Middle Kingdom, 3rd or early 2nd Millennium BC

Two corners chipped, an ancient cut extends diagonally through much of the body. The surface has acquired a cream/white calcified patina.

Size: 4.8 x 3.4 cms

Ex. private collection, Sussex, UK; acquired in the early 20th Century.

For an example of similar size and shape please compare items UC59569 and UC6222 in the Petrie Museum, London.
