Egyptian Dynasty VI alabaster cup with lid

£280

A very elegant alabaster cup with waisted tapering sides and a solid pedestal base. The lid fits precisely onto the rim suggesting that the two pieces belong.

Egypt, Dynasty VI, 2345-2195 BC

One side of the vessel has been repaired (the glued line has yellowed with time), a few chips have been restored with wax (possibly in the 19th Century); the lid is chipped as seen in the photographs.

Vessel: 7.1 x 4.9 cms, lid 5.4 x 0.7 cms

Ex. Peter Negus collection, acquired between 1920-2000. Collector's label to base citing Petrie references.
