Egyptian Naqada slate rubbing stone |
£75 |
|
A small grey/green slate rectangular implement with ground ends. Although these smaller cushion-shaped implements are sometimes classified as ceremonial palettes it seems far more likely that they were used as rubbing stones for scraping the surface of a larger palette. Slate palettes were made in large quantities during the Naqada period and used for grinding and mixing kohl. Egypt, Naqada, 4th Millennium BC Size: 7.4 x 2.6 cms Intact as shown Acquired in the late 19th Century. Probably collected by the archaeologist, architect and author Arthur E. Henderson FSA, FRIBA, RBA. Antiquities |Books |Ordering |Postage |Contact us |Email |Links |Shopping cart |Mailing list |Home
