Egyptian alabaster kohl vessel

A heavy alabaster vessel with a squat biconical body and a wide flat rim, used for the storage of kohl. Some of the original contents are still visible inside the body.

Egypt, Middle Kingdom, c. 2050-1786 BC.

Rim chipped and a few nibbles on the foot. The body is intact and retains a smooth tactile patina.

Size: 4.7 x 5.2 cms

Ex. Peter Negus collection, acquired between 1920-2000. Collector's label to base citing Petrie references.
