Large Egyptian alabaster vessel

A large alabastron shaped vessel carved from variegated grey/white alabaster or calcite. The body is mounted with a pair of vertical lug handles and terminates in a tapering plain rim.

The shape indicates a degree of Greek/Phoenician influence but pre-dates the Ptolemaic Period.

Egypt, c. 600-400 BC

Rim and both lug handles chipped

Size: 20.2 x 6.2 cms

Ex. collection: Peter Negus, acquired between 1920-2000.
