Egyptian Dynasty XIX hardwood shabti

A carved hardwood shabti rendered with schematic facial features as are typical of these figures during the 19th Dynasty. The shabti is shown in thestanding mummiform position with its arms crossed over the chest. The figure has a pleasant tactile patina which is not apparent from the photographs.

Egypt, New Kingdom, Dynasty XIX, c. 13th Century BC

Intact as shown, traces of bitumen or pitch retained in areas below the face and wig.

Size: 20.5 x 10.7 cms

Provenance: Ex. private collection, Dorset, UK. Acquired during the 19th Century. This forms part of a collection of a few dozen objects which have remained untouched in an attic since the 1960's.

Old collector's label attached by string around the foot: "Antique image taken from tomb. Egypt".
