A carved steatite scarab retaining traces of pale brown glaze and decorated to the base with an interesting pattern consisting of four solar barques encircling a unification symbol.

Egypt, Second Intermediate Period, c. 17th Century BC

Intact as shown

Size: 1.7 x 1.2 cms

Ex. Private collection, UK; acquired in the early 20th Century. Thence acquired in Christies London in 2005 by Dr. Pietro Villari, Sicily, Italy. Dr. Villari co-founded The International Centre of High Education and Research in Archaeology (Venice); and in 1996 he also founded The Archaeological Centre (The Netherlands).
