Egyptian faience monkey amulet |

The upper part of a light blue glazed faience amulet depicting a monkey. The monkey is not a common depiction in Egyptian art but the animals were associated with temples and also kept as pets. By the New Kingdom, monkeys were being imported into Egypt from Nubia and the Land of Punt. Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, 332 - 30 BC. Lower part (legs) lost. Size: 2.3 x 1.1 cms Ex.
