A steatite scarab carved on the base with a figure of a striding monkey confronting a serpent.

Egypt, 2nd Intermediate Period, 18th to 16th Century BC

Edge of base chipped.

Size: 1.9 x 1.3 cms

Ex. Private collection, UK; acquired in the early 20th Century. Thence acquired in Christies London in 2005 by Dr. Pietro Villari, Sicily, Italy. Dr. Villari co-founded The International Centre of High Education and Research in Archaeology (Venice); and in 1996 he also founded The Archaeological Centre (The Netherlands).
