Egyptian large white faience Tauret amulet

A good quality and substantial sized white glazed faience amulet in the form of the goddess Tauret. The goddess is represented by a striding pregnant figure with the head of a hippopotamus, legs of a lion and the tail of a crocodile.

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 730 - 332 BC

Repaired across middle, crown and suspension loop lost; general wear as seen in the photographs. The yellow paint visible on the base is not ancient.

Size: 4 x 1.4 cms

Ex. private collection, Oxford, UK. Acquired early 20th Century.
