Cypriot Middle Bronze Age large pottery bowl

£400

A fine large pottery bowl with a profiled shoulder and a single handle with a raised thumb-spur. The buff pottery is covered in a red lightly burnished slip, of which much remains below the soil accretions to the surface.

Cyprus, Middle Bronze Age, 1900 - 1650 BC

Repaired from a few large pieces with only a couple of small chips from the handle and rim missing. Surface encrusted and concealing most of the original slip decoration.

Size: 16 x 31 cms (to end of handle)

Ex. collection: Jorgen Jacobsen, Bornholm, Denmark. Acquired while on UN duty with the Danish peace-keeping forces on Cyprus (Dancon X/XI) between October 1968 and October 1969. This item is part of a large collection of Cypriot antiquities acquired by Mr Jacobsen from antiques shops in Cyprus during his one-year stay on the island.
