Cypriot painted pottery hanging basket

£80

An unusual painted pottery vessel imitating a basket with a tall loop handle. The body is painted with a series of vertical strokes and the underside is painted with a cruciform pattern; these patterns are presumably intended to imitate basketwork.

Cyprus, Late Bronze Age, 1650-1050 BC.

Repaired from fragments with some minor losses.

Size: 13.4 x 9.5 cms

Provenance: Ex. private collection, UK. Acquired at Christies, London, late 1990's.
