Cypriot Late Bronze Age white slip ware pottery bowl

£375

Sorry this item has sold

A very finely made large white slip ware pottery bowl with a hemispherical body and a single wish-bone shaped handle. The body is painted with brown linear and geometric patterns which have survived unusually well.

This type of pottery is quite rare and represents the precedent to the more common but cruder white painted ware of the Late Bronze Age. This earlier type has a smooth slightly polished surface and more carefully arranged patterns.

Cyprus, start of Late Bronze Age, 1650-1450 BC.

Repaired from several pieces with some minor losses (all visible in the photographs).

Size: 19.8 x 9.5 cms, 24.6 cms including handle.

Provenance: Ex. private collection, Bath, UK.
