A cast bronze casket foot in the form of a lion paw terminating in a pair of wings stretching from an acanthus scroll.

Egypt, Roman period, 1st or 2nd Century AD

Provenance: Reputedly recovered by the Egyptian state from tombs in Lower Egypt. Given by the Egyptian government c. 1910-1912 to Herbert Edward Inman in lieu of payment for engineering services. Thence in the collection of Cecil Eric Britten Best, 1882-1973. From 1973 to present this item was on loan to Southampton Museum, Hampshire, UK.
