Roman Egyptian pottery "frog" lamp |
£45 |
|
A yellow/grey moulded pottery "frog" lamp. This type of lamp is so-called because it usually depicts a frog or parts thereof on the upper surface, in this case only a pair of the legs are shown. The base is incised with a pair of underlined Alpha letters; these may well indicate the owner or maker of the lamp though it is impossible to assess when these marks were added as they were carved after firing. Egypt, 2nd to 4th Century AD Repaired from two large pieces Size: 8.1 x 3.1 cms Ex. De Salis collection, UK. Acquired early 20th Century.
